Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot at a campus event at Utah Valley University in Orem on 10 September 2025, and is currently hospitalised in critical condition.
The incident occurred around 12:10 p.m. local time while Kirk was speaking under a white tent as part of his "American Comeback Tour." Eyewitness video footage captured the moment a single shot struck him in the neck, prompting panic among the crowd as attendees screamed, fled, and sought cover.
Authorities swiftly closed the campus, cancelled classes, and confirmed that a suspect, an older male in a worker’s uniform, was taken into custody. The FBI and ATF have launched a joint investigation.
The attack was widely condemned across party lines. President Trump called for prayers, writing: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk… A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” Vice President J.D. Vance and Utah Senator Mike Lee also expressed support, as did both Republican and Democratic leaders who called for unity against political violence.
This alarming shooting follows a disturbing surge in politically motivated violence in the United States, evoking serious concerns about the safety of public discourse and freedom of speech on university campuses.
