Chief Imam of Owo dies at 91

Alhaji Ahmad Oladoke Aladesawe, the Chief Imam of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas, has passed away at the age of 91. He died on Monday evening, 15 September 2025, at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, Ondo State.


Sheikh Aladesawe also served as Secretary-General of the League of Imams and Alfas covering the South-West, Edo, and Delta States. Known for his humility, scholarship, and community leadership, he devoted his life to the growth of Islam, inter-faith peace, and social unity across Ondo State and beyond.


His death was confirmed by Alhaji Kamorudeen Ishola, a Muslim leader in Owo. Burial rites according to Islamic tradition are scheduled to take place in his hometown at 2.00pm on Tuesday, 16 September 2025.


Muslim youth organisations, state officials, and members of the national council of Muslim youth organisations have all expressed deep sorrow at his passing. They describe the loss as monumental and pray that his good deeds will be accepted and his legacy will continue to guide future generations.
