Chief Executive Officer of OpenAI, Sam Altman, has issued a fresh warning to users of ChatGPT, revealing that many people are unaware their conversations on the platform can be admitted as legal evidence in court. He said users frequently share highly personal and sensitive information without realizing the potential legal implications.

Altman explained that although ChatGPT is designed to assist users with a wide range of questions and problems, some conversations—especially those involving admissions, confessions, or disputes—could be accessed during investigations or presented during court proceedings if relevant. He noted that this is similar to how emails, text messages, and social media posts have been used as evidence in past legal cases.

He urged users to be more cautious and not assume their chats are entirely private or confidential. While OpenAI has privacy protocols in place, he emphasized that users should avoid using the platform as a diary for sensitive issues, especially those involving legal matters.
