On 10 September 2025, conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a campus event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, a tragic outcome confirmed by President Donald Trump via social media.
The shooting occurred as Kirk addressed attendees under a white tent for the first stop of his "American Comeback Tour".
Video footage from the scene captured a loud crack, followed by Kirk recoiling and collapsing, blood visible from the neck, prompting panic and a chaotic scramble of the crowd.
Despite initial reporting from university authorities that a suspect was in custody, it was later clarified that the person apprehended was not the shooter, who remains at large.
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have launched a joint investigation into the attack.
Following news of Kirk’s death, President Trump expressed deep sorrow, describing him as "beloved and admired by ALL," especially highlighting his influence on young conservatives.
Kirk, aged 31, co-founded Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organisation instrumental in energising young voter support for Trump. His powerful mobilisation efforts made him a significant figure in conservative politics and youth activism.
