Chaos in Benue as Suspected Thugs Attack Peter Obi’s Convoy

Chaos erupted in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Tuesday after a crowd of suspected political thugs launched an attack on the convoy of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The incident occurred while Obi was returning from a solidarity visit to internal displaced persons (IDP) camps across the state. Eyewitness accounts and video footage circulating on social media show dozens of unidentified youths armed with stones, wooden planks, and dangerous weapons ambushing the convoy, shattering the windshields and side windows of multiple vehicles in his motorcade.

Security personnel attached to Peter Obi acted promptly to neutralize the immediate threat, firing warning shots into the air to disperse the violent crowd and ensure the safe evacuation of the presidential candidate.
While several vehicles within the motorcade sustained significant structural damage, Obi and key members of his delegation escaped unhurt. However, a few security aides and party supporters suffered minor injuries from flying glass.
The NDC issued an immediate statement condemning the attack as a deliberate, politically motivated attempt to intimidate opposition leaders ahead of the upcoming election cycle, calling on security agencies to arrest the perpetrators.
