Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has reportedly declared a nationwide ban on hοmοsexuality, stating that it goes against African values. In a strong-worded statement attributed to him, Traoré said, “It’s not an African value, but a Western degeneracy.”

Traoré, who came to power in 2022, has been vocal about rejecting what he describes as foreign ideologies being forced on African societies. This latest move is seen by supporters as a continuation of his pan-African and anti-Western stance.

The decision has drawn a mixed response, with some applauding it as a stand for cultural identity, while others express deep concern about its impact on the LGBTQ+ community in Burkina Faso.
