Bill Gates-Backed Firm Produces Butter Made Entirely from Carbon

A company backed by billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates has unveiled a groundbreaking innovation — butter made entirely from carbon, without the use of animals, plants, or oils. The firm, specializing in sustainable food technology, says the product is created through a process that converts carbon dioxide from the air into edible fats.
The carbon-based butter is designed to mimic the taste, texture, and cooking qualities of traditional dairy butter while significantly reducing environmental impact. Developers claim it offers a solution to the greenhouse gas emissions linked to animal agriculture and the deforestation often associated with plant oil production.
According to the company, the process uses specialized microbes, fermentation technology, and renewable energy to transform captured carbon into food-grade lipids. The result is a spreadable, flavorful butter alternative that requires no farmland, livestock, or large-scale agricultural inputs.
The product is currently undergoing testing for safety and scalability, with the company aiming to launch it in select markets in the coming years.
