ASUU Bokkos Chapter Declares Indefinite Strike

Lecturers at Plateau State University, Bokkos, have walked off the job, with the local ASUU chapter announcing an indefinite, all-out strike after the institution failed to meet a set of long-standing demands.

The decision followed a Congress meeting held once a 14-day ultimatum, issued on 11 August, ran out without resolution. In a joint statement, union chairperson Vincent D. Choji and secretary Lomka Kopdiya said members were unconvinced the university had genuinely addressed any of their six core grievances.

At the heart of the dispute are unresolved welfare and funding issues: implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme, full rollout of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement, and payment of salary arrears dating back to January 2026. The union is also pushing for safer staff accommodation, perimeter security improvements around campus, and an end to what it calls the intimidation of union leadership.

A further sticking point is 22 months of unpaid arrears tied to the 25/35 per cent wage award. With backing from ASUU's National Executive Council, members have now suspended all academic activity indefinitely.
