Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent lawyer and political commentator within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has passed away under circumstances that remain undisclosed. His death occurred on Monday and was confirmed through X on Tuesday by pro-APC advocate Okezie J. Atañi, who mourned the loss and offered condolences to Onokpasa’s family.

Onokpasa was well known for his active role in APC politics, having served on the party’s Publicity Committee and being a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 general elections. He frequently appeared on television defending President Bola Tinubu’s administration, earning public recognition for his fervent commentary.

However, in recent months, Onokpasa’s stance shifted as he publicly withdrew his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Citing concerns over worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and the sidelining of loyal party members, he questioned the administration’s direction. His transformation from staunch ally to outspoken critic had resonated powerfully in political circles.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and observers across the political spectrum. Supporters recalled his passionate debates, such as his memorable TV showdown with Arise Television host Rufai Oseni, as evidence of his profound impact on public discourse. As his family mourns, the APC and Nigerian political community reflect on the loss of one of its more vocal and influential voices.
