Akwa Ibom Police Detain ‘Fake Doctor’ After Abortion Death in Uyo Clinic
Omoyeni Olabode

Detectives from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a man masquerading as a medical doctor after a 35-year-old woman died following an illegal abortion at his clinic, Full Life Medical Centre, in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
The victim, Blessing Sunday Etim, had gone to work at the clinic when she tragically passed away. Her mother raised an alarm after the woman failed to return home.
A co-tenant at the premises recounted how the suspect, identifying himself as Dr. Sunday Okon Akpan, attempted to surreptitiously place the deceased's body in her room. When the co-tenant intervened, the suspect dropped the corpse and fled the scene.
Police arriving at the clinic discovered a premature foetus protruding from the victim’s private parts and promptly arrested the suspect, who hails from Afaha Offiong in Nsit Ibom.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim likely died as a result of an illegal abortion performed by the suspect. It was further revealed that he is neither a licensed medical doctor nor a nurse, but only a community health practitioner, and that the clinic has since been deserted.
The victim’s body has been deposited in a morgue pending autopsy, and investigations remain ongoing.
