Akon’s Wife, Tomeka Thiam, Files for Divorce Just Days Before 29th Anniversary

Tomeka Thiam, wife of singer Aliaune “Akon” Thiam, has filed for divorce after nearly 29 years of marriage.


The divorce petition, submitted on 11 September 2025, cites irreconcilable differences as the reason. Thiam is seeking joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Journey, along with physical custody for herself and visitation rights for Akon. She is also requesting spousal support, while asking the court to deny any spousal support to Akon.


Their date of separation is listed as “to be determined,” indicating that the split is recent but the precise timeline yet unresolved.


The timing is notable as the filing came just days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary, on 15 September.
