Aero Contractors, one of Nigeria’s oldest domestic carriers, has refunded approximately ₦257,195,724.39 to passengers between January and August 2025. The figure reflects a 137 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024, when it paid out ₦108,308,037.40, and is nearly eight times the ₦32,766,652.30 refunded during the same stretch in 2023.
Alongside these refunds, the airline has spent ₦6,083,229 on hotel accommodation (HOTAC) for passengers stranded due to flight disruptions. Hotels used include Cocos Hotel and Grand Cubana Hotel in Abuja, NOCY Castle Hotel, Kim Royal Hotel, JC42 Apartment (Asaba), and Mayor & Diplomat Hotel (Lagos).
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has praised the development as proof of “remarkable improvement in compliance” with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations, 2023, which governs passenger rights and airline obligations.
NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, described the surge in refunds as one of the regulator’s “proudest achievements”, emphasising that Nigerian passengers are being better protected than ever.
