ADC, APC, 2027 Election

In a bold declaration, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has vowed that his party will unseat President Bola Tinubu and capture control of Lagos State Government House in the 2027 general elections.

Aregbesola made the promise during a political gathering in Lagos when Moshood Salvador, leader of the Conscience Forum and former ally of Tinubu, formally joined the ADC. He told the crowd that the ADC’s grassroots mobilisation strategy would enable it to “take over the seat of power” in Abuja as well as in Lagos.

The announcement drew swift criticism from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos. Party spokespeople dismissed Aregbesola’s claims as “empty boasts,” accusing him of turning against the party that advanced his political career. APC insisted that Lagosians and Nigerians will vote based on performance, not promises.

Despite the scepticism, the ADC appears to be gaining momentum. The defection of Salvador and significant members of his group, across all 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos, signals growing strength in the ADC’s ranks.

For many political watchers, the coming election will test whether parties can actually convert rhetoric into votes, especially in Lagos where political dynamics have long favoured the APC. Observers will be watching closely to see how the ADC’s strategy unfolds as 2027 draws nearer.
